Rosetta’s lander Philae is due make a soft landing on comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko on 12 November.
Rosetta, Philae and the comet all have a name’s, but the planned landing spot is just name landing place “J”.
As a lot of people remember Amstrong’s words “Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed”, naming a historic landing place looks like a good idea.
As the a soft landing on a comet is not done before it looked a good idea to the ESA people and its Rosetta mission partners to give a little more cachet to the event ad find a good name to rebrand landing place “J” Suggestions anyone????
Yes that’s right! They opened a competition!
The competition is now closed, the winner will be announced on 3 november.
You can enter your suggestion on the ESA rosetta competition page (competition will run until 22 October 23:59 UT)
